An interview with Jayne Grant

My Mum  is Jayne Grant ( Howells ) . She started in Penygloddfa school in 1981 . The school was different when she was little; the top playground was for boy’s football, the middle was the same apart from new extensions. In the Juniors there was this old building which was demolished during her last year of school. There were around 250 people in Penygloddfa school.

Here teachers were Mr Fleming , Mrs Morris , Mr Williams , Mrs Evans and Mrs Lewis. The Headteacher was Mr Jones and the secretary  was Mrs Gibson.

There were  about 9 classes in Penygloddfa school . The dinners were disgusting especially the semolina but some of the puddings were delicious especially the skin on the custard, it was lovely .

Jayne’s favourite school trip was when she went to London although a few of the things in London were cancelled. Everyone apart from Jayne bought fake cigarettes and a stranger walked past them and threw one Cigarette on  the road! They spent all their money on it so it was a waste of money and everyone was just stood there thinking ‘oh my gosh!’

There were absolutely  no computers in Penygloddfa school when Jayne was a child . She used to play Deno , Hide and seek and her favourite was doing gymnastics like we do now.

Jayne never wore uniform to school she could wear whatever she wanted as long as her mum said it was OK to wear to school . When Jayne was in school she used to study Maths , Welsh and reading . Her favourite was Maths and she had no worst subject because she liked them all, she just preferrred maths more .

Here are some of Jayne’s favourite memories:

In the infants where Mrs Morgan’s class is, where the toilets are, a boy threw toilet tissue up on to the ceiling of both toilets because it dries and sticks.  The girls were called into the headmaster’s office one by one to try and find out who it was because they obviously thought it was a girl in the end they found out it was a boy who opened the door and threw it up onto the ceiling!

Jayne travelled with her class to Birmingham to see James and the Giant Peach. Everyone was really really excited because everyone loved it. Shame it was the end very quickly!

People were doing art for the Urdd and Jayne and Louise made a collage and it  came second overall. It was a window with a different picture in each area. They put plastic on top and they put a curtain on it.Mr Jones loved it they had it up on the wall for ages and ages Her and Louise were very proud of it .
